This is an old revision of the document!

Pre-notes towards the fieldguide.

(see also internal/process notes at https://repo.fo.am/foam/futurist-fieldguide/ )

what is it?

who is it for? how could a reader approach it?

A way to enter: what is this all about in the broadest sense? Why? Who tried it out and what did they say (e.g. the testimonials of visualizing the invisible feedback)? Explain yourselves (but make it interesting)! (e.g. visualizing the invisible seems to be a step in this direction.) What can I get out of this if I'm not especially interested in the internal details of methods, structures, approaches, etc.?

Making clear where you're coming from, what I can expect from these approaches, what they demand - background traditions, presuppositions, prerequisites to prepare prospective futurists. Also what driving preoccupations and concerns makes someone become personally concerned about this business?

These methods are often

  • structured
  • conceptual
  • analytical
  • speculative
  • interactive
  • collective/co-created
  • diagrammatic/schematic
  • participatory
  • existentially experiential…

various features

  • interviews (conducted by us and/or contributors)
  • pragmatic
  • some context
  • pocket sized (or aproximate A5?, A6? smaller?)

other notes and points of departure

  • as appendix fr 'Futurish' or a fork/branch of 'Futurish'
  • perhaps more editorial discretion wrt. 'Futurish'
  • how do we look at multiple authors when doing 'method' peices or instruction-like sections?
  • intro → intermediate → advanced
